What Special Help Is Available For Young People?

Glasgow North Regeneration Agency has a specialist Youth Team which offers practical support and assistance to young people wishing to enter employment, training or further education. The main focus for the team is to assist young people to find work or to identify suitable educational and training opportunities.

Glasgow North Regeneration Agency’s Youth Team works directly with young people aged 16 to 19 years of age.

Employment Advisers

Youth Employment Advisers can provide you with all the tools and skills you need to make the right career choice. You will be assisted with:

  • 1 to 1 advice and career guidance
  • Identify your skills and abilities
  • Help with your confidence and self esteem
  • Personalised CV
  • Intensive job search
  • Tips and hints on how to complete your application forms correctly
  • Interview techniques

Get Ready For Work Programmes

GNRA offers a unique service to Get Ready For Work trainees by offering employability support from the GRFW employment adviser. The employability adviser provides:

  • 1 to 1 support
  • Intensive Job search
  • CVs
  • Interview Techniques

If you don’t feel you are ready for employment and need some work experience then the GRFW programme could be just right for you.  Your training will be designed to meet your needs and will be agreed by you and Careers Scotland.

GRFW offers:

  • Training in a number of skills depending on your needs
  • You will receive a training allowance
  • Personal development, Team building
  • Practical hands on work placement experience
  • 1 to 1 literacy support (if required)
  • £60 per week allowance and travel

Retail Academy

Retail Academy based in the Buchanan Galleries has training specifically tailored for the retail industry. You can learn the important skills in:

  • Customer care and good customer service
  • Work placements with major city centre retail outlets
  • Appropriate behaviour at work
  • Handling conflict in the workplace
  • £60 per week allowance

Building Glasgow’s Young People

BGYP is a 20 week training programme that takes place in various colleges in Glasgow and is aimed at young people not in education, employment or training. You can learn the basic skills needed to help you apply for various positions in the construction and building industry. While you are on the course you will meet with a youth employment adviser who will give you ongoing support and help with searching for employers for placement, as well as employment at the end of the course.

Bridge to Employment

If you are work ready but can’t seem to get passed the interview stage then B2E could help you. This programme is specifically for young people who are willing to work for an employer on a trial basis to show they have what is takes to be a good employee. In return GNRA will assist with any training costs, attendance allowance and travel.

  • Up to £70 per week allowance and travel

Financial Support

Sometimes just getting ready for work can be costly for you or your parents/guardians. We can provide financial support for early stages in employment for things such as travel, work wear, tools and equipment “every little helps”.

Modern Apprenticeships

If you are already employed in an office, warehouse or customer service environment, GNRA can offer an apprenticeship at SVQ Levels 1-3 in Office Administration, Customer Service and Warehousing. This is of no cost to you or your employer.

Keyworkers

GNRA keyworkers offer a specific service to young people who need additional support in looking for employment, training and education.

They will:

  • Meet with you in local offices, community centres, libraries or in the early stages a home visit might be possible.
  • Help you take the next step in building self esteem and confidence
  • Keyworkers help bridge the gap between school and employment, training and education.
