Information:
Dementia is a term which is used quite casually by many care workers
when someone is presenting as confused. This can be very dangerous,
as confusion can be caused by various kinds of conditions - a
simple chest infection, a urinary tract infection or a change
in medication
It is very important to make sure a proper assessment is undertaken
and a diagnosis given. Therefore, dementia is yet another area
where care workers need specialised training. A care worker is
not expected to learn everything, but some basic knowledge and
understanding is vital in order to work well with service users
.
