Course Name:
Cleanliness Champion

Information:
Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) affects over 33,000 patients in hospitals every year in Scotland. By going through the Cleanliness Champion programme, delegates will have a major resource with which to fight HAI as they will obtain the skills and knowledge needed to ensure good practice in areas such as maintaining a safe environment .

Where does the role fit?:
The programme has two main themes - safe practice and safe environment. Through the ten learning units noted below, both areas will be covered

  • The chain of infection
  • Hand hygiene - Parts 1, 2 & 3
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Safe use and disposal of sharps
  • Maintenance of a clean healthcare environment
  • Safe handling and disposal of waste
  • Food hygiene and pest control
  • Staff hygiene and dress code
  • Patient care practices
  • The role of the 'Cleanliness Champion' and it's impact on the organisation

Ways of learning:
Web-based e-learning is the preferred method of learning as this allows interaction and instant access to web-links.
A CD of the training programme can be used and if the computer has an Internet link, hyperlinks on the disk can be activated.
A Paper version is available to those who don't have access to the electronic version. –

How long will it take?:
On-line learning will take approximately 16-20 hours, including on-line activities. Delegates who have undertaken similar study programmes may work through the programme quicker

Cost:
Registration Fee of £75 + VAT
4 x 1 day sessions at total cost of £195 per candidate
